For ENGIM, Guinea-Bissau represents one of the most significant contexts in the field of business support. The first initiative to strengthen the vocational training system dates back to 1993, and since then, numerous projects have been implemented, thanks in part to the constant presence of ENGIM volunteers and staff in the country. ENGIM operates as an NGO recognized by the Guinean government and collaborates primarily with the two vocational training centers run by the Giuseppini Fathers, located in Bissau and Bula.
The decision to focus on labor market inclusion stems from the profound challenges facing the national labor market: the limited number of small and medium-sized enterprises, the weak connection between training centers and the productive sector, and the market’s limited capacity to absorb young graduates. To address these challenges, through international cooperation projects we work to strengthen vocational training, career guidance, job placement services, and the launch of new entrepreneurial initiatives.
Since 2007, through the ENGIM/CIFAP incubator in Bissau—the country’s first microenterprise incubator—we have supported students, entrepreneurs, farmers, journalists, artisans, and artists on pathways ranging from needs assessment to job placement.
