The traditional pharmacy of Mr. Isaias Aienque was established in one of the poorest neighbourhood in the city, Bandim, to give also the less privileged the possibility access to medical treatments. Isaias says that his dream was to study medicine, but because of a major eye disease it just wasn’t possible. Due to the impossibility to realise his dream, and thanks to the support of a community of Italian priests, he approached horticulture in the community itself. Isaias is proud of his business, also because it respects the values of his culture of origin: in fact in the Bijagos archipelago the traditional treatments are still very popular.
Isaias’ competences, acquired through years of study and field study, contributed to the start of his business of production and sale of natural medical treatments (spices, medicinal herbs, creams based on palm oil,syrups).
